CHINE : UN SEISME FAIT AU MOINS 118 MORTS
Les secours tentent mardi de retrouver des survivants dans les décombres après un puissant séisme durant la nuit qui a fait au moins 118 morts dans le Nord-Ouest de la Chine, le plus meurtrier depuis près de dix ans dans le pays.
Le tremblement de terre s’est produit à environ 1.300 km au sud-ouest de Pékin, dans la province de Gansu, et près de la frontière avec la province de Qinghai. Au moins 105 personnes ont été tuées et près de 400 blessées dans la province de Gansu après le violent tremblement de terre, selon un bilan établi mardi matin par les autorités locales.
La catastrophe a aussi fait 13 morts et 182 blessés, avec 20 personnes portées disparues, dans la ville de Haidong, dans la province voisine de Qinghai, selon la chaîne de télévision publique CCTV.
Le tremblement de terre a endommagé des milliers d’habitations, dont beaucoup sont des structures délabrées construites en briques, et poussé les habitants à courir dans le froid pour se mettre à l’abri.
“J’ai failli mourir de peur. Regardez comme mes mains et mes jambes tremblent”, déclare une femme d’une trentaine d’années dans une vidéo diffusée sur les réseaux sociaux par Le Quotidien du Peuple.
“Alors que je sortais en courant de la maison, un pan de montagne s’est effondré et s’est écrasé sur le toit”, a-t-elle ajouté, assise à l’extérieur, emmaillotée dans une couverture et tenant un bébé dans ses bras.
Des images de CCTV montraient les affaires d’une famille éparpillées parmi les débris d’une maison effondrée.
L’approvisionnement en eau et en électricité a été interrompu dans les villages situés autour de l’épicentre, selon les médias officiels affirmant que l’électricité avait été partiellement rétablie par la suite.
Les températures ont chuté bien en dessous de zéro dans le Nord de la Chine. Des images de l’une des zones les plus touchées diffusées sur CCTV montraient des habitants se réchauffant près d’un feu pendant que les services d’urgence installaient des tentes.
Plus de 1.400 pompiers et secouristes ont été dépêchés sur la zone sinistrée et plus de 1.600 étaient en veille, selon CCTV.
La chaîne a précisé que de l’eau potable, des couvertures, des poêles pour se chauffer et des nouilles instantanées avaient également été envoyés dans la région.
